싸이,'반미공연'공식사과…"깊이 후회한다"

가수 싸이가 과거 자신의 반미 공연에 대해 사과의 뜻을 밝혔습니다.

7일 미국의 복수 언론들은 싸이가 지난 2004년 ‘미군과 그의 가족을 천천히 죽이자는 내용의 랩을 했다”고 보도했습니다.

논란이 일자 싸이는 소속사를 통해 내가 8년 전 피처링 했던 노래는 이라크 전쟁과 두 한국 소녀들을 죽인 것에 대한 깊은 감정적 반응이었다”며 그것은 당시 다른 전 세계 사람들이 공유하던 일종의 반전(反戰) 감정이었다”고 과거 공연에 대해 설명했습니다.

이어 나는 이 가사들이 번역 된 것에 대해 유감스럽게 생각한다. 영원히 그 단어들이 만든 고통에 대해 미안하게 생각할 것이다”고 덧붙였습니다.

그는 미국인들이 사과를 받아주길 바란다. 우리가 자신의 견해를 표현하는 것은 중요하지만 내가 사용한 선동적이고 적당하지 않은 언어들에 대해 후회한다”며 공식 사과의 뜻을 전했습니다.

한편 싸이는 오는 21일 개최되는 ‘크리스마스 인 워싱턴 2012공연의 클로징 무대를 맡아 미국 대통령 오바마 부부 앞에서 ‘강남스타일을 선보일 예정입니다.

Statement from Psy

As a proud South Korean who was educated in the United States and lived there for a very significant part of my life, I understand the sacrifices American servicemen and women have made to protect freedom and democracy in my country and around the world. The song I was featured in - eight years ago – was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two Korean schoolgirls that was part of the overall antiwar sentiment shared by others around the world at that time. While Im grateful for the freedom to express one`s self, Ive learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and Im deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused by those words.

I have been honored to perform in front of American soldiers in recent months – including an appearance on the Jay Leno show specifically for them- and I hope they and all Americans can accept my apology. While its important that we express our opinions, I deeply regret the inflammatory and inappropriate language I used to do so. In my music, I try to give people a release, a reason to smile. I have learned that thru music, our universal language we can all come together as a culture of humanity and I hope that you will accept my apology."
